Our beginners golf series reviews the basics of how to play golf. In this video, GOLFTEC's VP of Instruction, Nick Clearwater, and Kenzie O'Connell address the overall basics of putting. From what type of putter is best for beginners to always trying to get the ball in the hole in two putts. They recommend starting with a mallet putter.
00:00:04 - The goal on the putting green is to finish with just two putts, not necessarily making the first one, and it is important to choose a putter that feels comfortable and suited to your preferences.
00:00:51 - The basics of putting involve setting up the putter first, positioning your dominant eye over the ball, placing your feet carefully, taking pendulum swings, and maintaining a proper follow-through.
00:01:43 - Slow and follow through when putting to get as close to the hole as possible as a beginner golfer.
00:02:35 - The next three videos will cover speed, direction, and how to read the break of putts.
⛳ The main goal in putting is to get the ball in the hole within two putts.
🏌️♂️ Beginners should use a larger putter with a line to help with alignment.
🕰️ A smooth, pendulum-like stroke is key to effective putting.

00:00:04 - okay so now we're on the putting green this is where you're gonna finish the whole this is it so now we've got the flagstick in we're gonna keep it there that's the part that just designates where the holes at now the point that I'm going to try to make here if you get nothing out of this video is that we're just trying to make this in two putts so I'm gonna hit this one and one more and get it in the hole that's your goal it's not necessarily to make this one now
00:00:26 - there are three skills to putting we'll cover that in the next couple of videos for now this is the basic overview this is how it works so pay attention real quick to just our equipment that we have here I've got a putter that looks different Mackenzie's got four of them laid laid down here on the ground what do you think I mean we had we were talking before you definitely want to putter this a little bit bigger to start out with it makes it a little easier I tend to go with one has a line on it
00:00:51 - it's easier to line up the ball I think and you have a line on yours as well yeah this is a whole host of them they're all made differently just grabbing one that's big is a good start if you can get one with a line on it to Kenzie's points that'll be a great start so how should someone get going just to know the basics about pop so when I set up I always set the putter up first so and then I put my dominant eye over the ball good and then I set my feet gotcha
00:01:15 - so just to go through that real quick you got putter in the ground yep put your eyes over the ball then place your stance yeah about where you're turning and then it's just pendulum swings so it's as far back as you take it you want to follow through that same distance and it's just a tick-tock motion so I think of like a o'clock see it's just tick-tock gotcha a lot of beginners they tend to jab at the ball and get really stuck or they go back really fast and they follow through
00:01:41 - really short so you just want to take it back really slow and follow through really so I like it okay so then let me demonstrate this one I'm again not trying to make this putt I just want to get as close as I can the real problem as a beginning golfer can be when you're out here trying to make this putt and you start rolling them past the hole and you can hit 1012 putts as a beginner golfer here to is what you're really after so I'll hit this putt following Kenzie's advice
00:02:04 - putter down on the ground my eyes are over the ball take my stance and then a slow short stroke and that one's gonna cozy up really close to the hole almost made it just graze the edge so now I've still got the flag in no reason to take that out now I've got a putt that's a few feet away from the hole still same idea in mind the right way to do this is to make this putt and go on to the next tee so we'll grab this ball the hole go on to the next hole and start hitting that cool driver again
00:02:33 - anything else you'd add about putting or you think that's good for the base that's pretty good okay watch the next three videos we'll go over speed direction and then how to figure out which way these putts are going to break [Music]
