Should You Use a Mini Driver or a Standard Driver?

Description

Curious about the mini driver and whether it belongs in your golf bag? Watch as we break down exactly what a mini driver is, how it compares to a standard driver, and who should consider using one.

00:00:00 - Payton and I will discuss the pros and cons of using a mini driver in your setup.

00:00:12 - A mini driver is a smaller, shorter, and higher-lofted version of a standard driver, making it easier to hit off the tee.

00:00:51 - This club is a good option for improving fairway accuracy, especially for players with higher swing speeds who prioritize control over distance, though its increased loft and larger head may make it harder to hit off the ground compared to modern fairway woods.

00:01:32 - We'll have you try hitting a few with it so you can see if you like it, though it might be a bit more challenging.

00:02:16 - The speaker explains that the smaller, higher-lofted club launches the ball higher but not as far, making it less suitable for someone like Peyton who needs more distance due to slower swing speed.

00:02:55 - This mini driver is a great option for those who want an easier, straighter tee shot, especially if you have a faster swing, while traditional drivers are better for maximizing distance.

🏌️‍♂️ Mini drivers have smaller heads and more loft than standard drivers, making them easier to hit straight but sacrificing distance.

⛳ Golfers with higher swing speeds may benefit most from mini drivers, as they prioritize hitting fairways over maximum distance.

🚫 Mini drivers are generally harder to hit off the ground, so they are not ideal fairway wood replacements for most players.

00:00:00 - I've got Payton with me. We've got a mini driver. We're going to talk about whether or not you should be using this in your set. And we're going to talk [music] about some pros and cons.

00:00:12 - So, Payton, mini driver. If I were to ask you what's different about that, what would you say? >> It's tinier than a normal. >> There you go. It's It's a mini version of a driver. That was perfect. You see, you're so good at this. You didn't even know I was going to ask you that question. You're ready to go. So, mini drivers have a little bit of a smaller head compared to a a standard driver. [music] typically going to be a little shorter in length. Okay? Uh and they're

00:00:31 - generally going to have a little bit more loft. So, this one I think has 11 and a half degrees on that one compared to like your normal drivers which are [music] like nine or 10 and a half. So, these are kind of you can think of it almost like between a driver and a 3-wood. Okay. Um benefits to this club obviously because it is a little smaller and a little shorter. Generally going to be a little bit easier for you to hit off the tee. [music] Um so, if you're

00:00:51 - really struggling with strike location on a driver or just super inconsistent off the tee, this could be a great option for you. Help you find more fairways. Um, it's also really helpful uh for a lot of people [music] with like higher swing speeds who maybe want that club that's really helpful just to find a fairway off the tee. They're not really worried about distance because they swing fast enough. Um, one of the big negatives obviously is because it has a little bit more loft, [music] it's

00:01:11 - not going to go as far. So, you got to kind of weigh that with whether or not to use this. The other the other hard part about this one, if you're going to use this as like a fairway wood replacement, they're generally a little tougher to hit off of the ground just because of the size of the head. You'll get a lot of modern 3-woods, fivewoods, seven woods, they're a lot narrower, a lot smaller as far as just the height. This one's much more traditionally shaped like a driver. So, if you're

00:01:32 - using this off the ground, it's generally just going to be a little more challenging to hit. But, um, we'll have you hit a couple with it. You can kind of tell me whether you like it or not. >> All right. Okay. >> Y [music]

00:01:44 - better. Still went way. >> It's totally fine.

00:01:54 - >> [music]

00:01:59 - >> It's fine. >> Like again, you hit that [music] a little high, but that's okay.

00:02:09 - >> There you go. That's the best one you've hit. >> Yeah.

00:02:16 - [music] >> All right. So, you hit a couple. >> What are your thoughts? >> Definitely goes higher. used to kind of hitting maybe 20 to 30 yards farther, but goes higher. It's good contact though, so feels the same swing. >> Yeah, you're not going to probably notice much difference as far as like the swing or the contact. It's just like I said, it's a little smaller head, so it's going to have a little smaller look when you set up [music] to it. It's going to typically launch a little

00:02:36 - higher just because of the loft. >> It's probably not going to go as far. That's exactly what you saw. So, like for somebody like yourself, Peyton, I don't know that this would necessarily be the best option for you. um just because you don't swing super [music] super fast yet, like you're still at that stage where you need distance that's going to help you as you continue to progress forward. For somebody who maybe has a lot of swing speed, a lot of club speed, really wants [music]

00:02:55 - something that's easy to find the fairway with, this is a really good option. Like even for you, I know you hit a couple that the the one that went way off to the right, but the other two you hit were fairly straight. Like that's a big benefit of this one because of the added loft, you're generally going to hit the ball a lot straighter. So, um, this could be a good option for those of you out there who swing fairly quickly, want something [music] that's easy to find the fairway with off the

00:03:14 - tea. For somebody like yourself, probably just stick with a normal driver. That's going to give you the best, uh, best chance to hit the ball really far. So, uh, thanks for being my test dummy today. That was really fun. I enjoyed watching you hit that and you crushed it with the description of what a mini driver is. So, well done. [music]
