When we talk about an “in-to-out” club path, we’re simply describing the club moving from the inside toward the ball and then outward through impact. Understanding this basic direction helps clarify how your swing path affects ball flight. Check out this video with GOLFTEC Coach Josh to learn more!
00:00:00 - I'm here to explain what an in-to-out or out-to-in club path is in golf.
00:00:16 - In golf, an "in to out" club path means the club moves from inside the body toward the ball and then outward to the right at impact.
00:01:01 - The best golfers tend to swing their clubs slightly from inside to out, helping them hit the ball far and straight with a slight draw, while amateurs often swing out to in, leading to less accurate shots.
00:01:46 - The best golfers swing their clubs slightly from inside to out with a shallow angle of attack to hit the ball farther and straighter with less backspin, while swinging out to in causes excessive backspin, loss of distance, and slicing.
🏌️♂️ The best golfers swing their clubs slightly in to out, resulting in straighter shots with less backspin and more distance.
🔄 Swinging out to in often leads to excessive backspin, loss of distance, and slicing the ball to the right.
🎯 Adjusting your club path from out to in to in to out can significantly improve your golf shot accuracy and power.
00:00:00 - I'm here today. We're going to talk about club path and I'm going to give you some insight as to what an in to out or an out toin club path is. If that's a term that you've heard and you didn't know what it was, stay tuned cuz I'm going to talk about it.
00:00:16 - All right. So, when we're talking about club path, the the way that you want to think about it, when when we say the words in to out, what that's essentially meaning, if you just envision this golf shaft as like the target line. If a right-handed golfer like myself was swinging the club more into out, that would mean that the club is traveling more from the inside, so more closer to my body towards the golf ball and then moving more out. It doesn't necessarily
00:00:39 - mean that it's going to keep moving out and away from you. That'd be really hard because your arms are attached to your shoulders and your body and they can't detach and just keep going. So, at some point, the club's going to have to swing back and in and around you. So, understand that when we're talking in to out or out to in, it's basically just right at impact. Which direction is the club moving? So, in to out from your perspective, that club's going to be traveling more out to the right.
00:01:01 - Straight would be basically aimed right at the target. And then more out to in for a right-handed player would mean that club head is outside of the golf ball, which would be represented by like my finger. and then traveling more to the left or more to the inside. So, generally speaking, what you're going to see is the best golfers in the world swing their golf clubs some amount into out. What this helps them do is it helps them hit the ball really far, really
00:01:23 - straight, and even with a slight draw. Uh, what a lot of amateurs, even beginners do is they tend to swing the club the opposite direction. So, you'll see a lot of bad golfers swing the club more out to in. What that's going to lead to is generally this club's going to be swinging more down when you hit the golf ball. Generally, the face will then have to be more open in order to get that ball to land on your target. And when you swing down a lot with the golf club, which would be this
00:01:46 - direction, and you swing with the face more open, what that leads to is an excessive amount of backspin and causes you to lose a ton of distance. And then it also causes that ball to slice and curve too far to the right. So, the best golfers in the world, they swing their clubs a little bit more into out. that angle of attack that I was describing is much more shallow, which allows them to hit the ball really far, much straighter with a lot less backspin. So, if you've
00:02:11 - ever wondered kind of when when people are telling you this golfer swinging into out or out to in, that's essentially what it is. When this club's swinging through impact, it's just basically which direction is the club moving as you are hitting the golf ball. So, again, best golfer swing in to out, the worst one swing out to in. If you think out to in is your problem, try to reverse that. Get that club swinging more out to the right. That'd go a long way to helping you hit it a lot further
00:02:32 - and a lot straighter.
