NEW TaylorMade Qi35

Description

Feast your eyes on the brand new TaylorMade Qi35! We sat down with the TaylorMade team to discuss what makes this new line so great.

00:00:00 - The director of product creation for woods and Putters aimed to create a diverse line of products this year by focusing on high inertia, three different drivers, and a lighter version to cater to all types of consumers, from beginners to experienced players.

00:00:51 - Tour products are designed to fit the characteristics of how you play the game, such as swing speed and style, in order to maximize forgiveness or minimize spin for different types of players.

00:01:34 - The new driver has a weight setting in the back that can be switched to the front for longer drives and lower ball flight trajectories, resulting in a 133% tighter dispersion with 95% confidence compared to the previous model.

00:02:21 - The new driver product offers a 13% tighter dispersion and an average of four to five yards longer for golfers, providing a great balance between distance and control.

00:03:04 - Making a removable weight allows for more weight to be placed elsewhere on the driver since it eliminates the need for a sliding system that contains discretionary weight.

00:03:49 - Higher inertia in a driver minimizes the effect of mishits, leading to straighter shots for players who struggle with hitting the center.

00:04:38 - The club head gear effect results in higher launch and less spin when hitting high on the club face, and more spin with low launch when hitting low on the face, prompting a focus on lowering the balance point in product design.

00:05:21 - The golf club technology minimizes low launch and high spin to maximize ball launch conditions with fit markers on the product.

00:06:15 - Our first fittings with tour players have been very successful, with Tommy Fleetwood especially liking the satin finish over the gloss finish of the new products because it helps him focus better.

00:06:56 - The team is seeing great success and positive feedback about the new driver due to the significant differences and improved performance it offers during fittings.

00:07:45 - The new variables are working better, allowing for more distance in fittings, such as the one that resulted in a 20-yard increase for a high level amateur golfer.

🏌️‍♂️ The new line of woods and putters aims to fit every type of golfer, from beginners to seasoned players.

🔄 The latest drivers feature removable weights instead of slider weights, allowing for more precise weight distribution.

🎯 High inertia drivers help reduce mishits, making off-center shots go straighter.

📏 The new drivers offer 13% tighter dispersion and up to 5 yards longer drives on average.

⚙️ The design includes speed pockets to minimize low launch high spin shots, optimizing ball launch conditions.

🌟 Tour players like Tommy Fleetwood have praised the new satin finish for better focus during play.

🚀 The new product line is described as 'launch monitor enabled,' enhancing fitting accuracy.

🏆 The new drivers have been quickly adopted by tour players, indicating their high performance and appeal.

00:00:00 - [Music] okay to start what is your role with sailor man I am the director of product creation for woods and Putters okay and so when you were constructing the woods what are the top three things that you guys had in mind this year has been quite different the fact that we want to give uh we want to have high inertia products but at the same time we want to make sure that we have three different drivers so that we can fit every consumer out there as well as having a

00:00:27 - light version too right so slower swing speed players so you're really looking holistically how can be to create the most diverse line of product so the easiest way to look at it would be like you know player type like I'm new to the game of golf or you know I can't find the center of the face let's give you the highest inertia product possible so you know that'll be our Qi 35 Max um but also look at you know the way you swing the golf you might be really good at

00:00:49 - golf um been playing a long time and be you know you know U someone who's been you know who swings and creates a descending blow and creates a lot of backspin um so you know a tour product might be really good for somebody even if you might not consider yourself like a great player or somebody with high swing speed so it's not necessarily we're designing products for a type of player but we look at the the characteristics of the way you play the game and we look at um your swing speed

00:01:12 - and and the style and how you interact with the golf club and then we want to have product to best fit that so you know when we look at Max we're really trying to get Max forgiveness and that's really what's really important when we look at the ls product it's slow spin so anybody generates a lot of spin with either descending um attack angles or somebody who creates a lot of ball speed cuz if you create a lot of ball speed you create lift right and so you're

00:01:32 - hitting the ball too high in the air and you don't what you don't want it to do is balloon and you know have these shorter drives our core product we're trying to make that one fit more people than ever before right so it's sort of in between the two but it's you know it's a 9k with a heavy weight setting in the back um you know which is extremely forgiving it's the most forgiving um core driver that we've ever made okay and then um you have the ability to

00:01:52 - switch the weights right so you can take that heavy weight in the back and move it to the front and so we're not using slider weights anymore we're using pinpoint weights um and when you put that weight front you have to get like lower more boring ball flight trajectories and we see longer drive so on average you know it's really cool the core drivers if you put the weight in the back we see about uh 133% um tighter dispersion than we were with qy10 which is huge and that's that that's like with

00:02:15 - 95% confidence we give every single golfer that capability um if you look at the testing it's much greater than that but you know we take all the Flyers out to make sure that everybody hopefully will see about 13% tighter dispersion with that product wow okay and then when you take that weight and put in the front we're seeing about you know four to five yards longer on average for every golfer that's hit it right so now you got like The Best of Both Worlds with that product which is great and

00:02:36 - then you know with the ls product our low spin driver um has three weights right so weight in the back is more forgiving weight in the front you can move it either heel or toe so now we can like look at fittings and how do you you know if you want to bring the ball you want to draw it a bit more or you know fading it too much we can put that weight in the heel and so we're really looking at like maximum fitting in one maximum forgiveness in the other and then one that just fits a large breath

00:02:58 - of people at the same time so super cool so I I specifically heard you say that this year you're not doing the slider weight you're doing a removable weight what is there any benefit to doing that as opposed to the slider weight yeah so multiple benefits one would be we can move the weight further right because when you make a slider weight you have to contain that in some type of system with a cartridge you know you have to build um structure around that to hold that thing in place so that's

00:03:21 - discretionary weight so a combination of of not having as much discretionary weight holding the thing in place means we have more weight to put that elsewhere in the driver um and then because for not using um a sliding system we're actually put the weight further on the extremities right so you can move the weight further we're using over half the weight now elsewhere um from the discretionary weight that we use to contain that slider system oh that's pretty cool um and then talking

00:03:44 - about you said this one has higher inertia how would you describe the effects of higher inertia to someone who's never played golf so a higher inertia driver you hit it you hit it in the center really doesn't matter right it's just going to go straight or where your where your Club is aiming um but when you Mish hit the center that's really where this High inertia comes into play so you know if you hit it if this is the heel this is the hosle right and you hit it on the toe that club face

00:04:06 - wants to open and then um the ball against the face is what we call gear effect right so it does the opposite so if your Club face opens your ball will will will turn and create you know what we call draw spin or hook spin okay right and so the the the higher the inertia the less of the change you get and sort of everything goes straighter so if you're someone who's like sees a lot of like Mish hits and balls curling and different directions whether it's you know Fades or or slices higher

00:04:33 - inertia is going to slow that club face down to stop it from wanting to open so quickly when you Mish hit the center which you know we all do yeah um also the other thing is with gear effect you look at the club face from like you know where you hit in Middle versus high or low right so we you need hit high on the club head face same thing right so the club wants to Loft and then because of the gear effect you get less spin right so if you hit it high in the face you

00:04:53 - get higher launch and you get less spin which is really good yeah um when you look at low on the face right when you hit low on the face you're deloft the golf club and then because of that you're going to create more spin that's where you get these like ballooning short drives and so what we're trying to do with our products is actually lower that balance point like where the center gravity is so that you get a larger area above where you get these high launch

00:05:14 - low spins and less of an area where you hit these low launch High spins right and then you look at the design on the bottom of it you get super technical we've got these uh speed pockets for channels what we're trying to do there is get the bottom of the face to sort of give and and and and flex and what that does is minimize that low launch High spin so between the center of gravity and then all the technology in the golf club we're trying to minimize the shorter D shorter you know ball launch

00:05:40 - conditions and maximize the longer ball launch conditions so so with this specific line of woods how would you describe it in three words uh I would say launched monitor enabled which just equates to the fact that we are the first company one of the only companies can do this because of our carbon faces but we can put um fit markers on our product and so all the select fit Parts all the parts that are going to be used for fittings across the globe will have fit markers on the product which this

00:06:07 - speaks of the fact that we can use our four models and fit more people be a more diverse uh product lineup than we've ever had in the past uh we've had some really great success too with our first fittings with our tour players okay uh Tommy fleet was one of the first persons to come here and actually test it and he loved the fact we did a satin Finish versus a gloss finish and so like you don't really think about like you're just trying to like you know with our

00:06:28 - design team we're always trying to make look cool cuz we want people to know go to the uh the golf stores right and pull them off the rack you know and and engage with the product so we're trying to make them look as cool as new as possible but he actually looked at it and was like oh I don't think I'll see like the rustling of the trees and then the people the crowds I'll be able to focus more down range and so he's like I can't wait to put this on play just even

00:06:48 - for that reason but um you know our tour players have been testing all the product and it's been some of the easiest tests we've had so far in terms of getting them out of their their current lineup I mean these these players you know whether there Nelly like you look at how many wins they have like how much success they have and they were asking to let's pull this out of the bag and put this new one in play um and usually that can be quite difficult the beginning of the season but this

00:07:08 - year so far it's been uh we've had a great success of hopefully getting a new product in the bag for beginning of next year what other memorable things are people saying about this new driver I think what we're seeing is it's the first time that going through a fitting and being able to see such differences a between the product and B within the product right so we're moving more more weight than ever before um and further distances and when you get on a launch monitor you immediately see like

00:07:36 - differences and numbers jumping right whether I'm like I'm spinning it too much let's put the weight here and all of a sudden the spin drops um or let's try this other driver and instantly seeing these the these uh different variables work better than before so I'm really excited for everybody to go through a fitting process cuz we can really uh tremendously get you more distance we had U Patrick Baxter who works for me he's one of our plms he's a high level amateur golf we plays in tons

00:08:00 - of tournament events um has access to everything here at the Kingdom um we we had him go through one of our first fittings and we got him 20 yards of distance so it's unbelievable crazy unbel wow well I'm officially excited to test out the drivers and um yeah thank you so much for letting me to talk to you thanks thanks for your time today
