Forged vs. Cast Irons—what’s the difference, and which should you play? 🤔💭 In this deep dive, we break down how each iron type is made, the key performance differences, and bust some common myths. Whether you're chasing feel, forgiveness, or workability, we've got you covered. Plus, find out why getting fit for the right irons is the real game-changer.
00:00:05 - Today we will discuss the differences between forged irons and cast irons, which are made in distinct ways, with forged irons crafted from a single piece of metal while cast irons are made by pouring metal into a pre-built mold of the desired shape.
00:00:45 - The primary difference between forging and cast clubs lies in how they are made.
00:01:03 - Forged irons are often associated with better players due to the weight distribution in the club head, but advancements in cast clubs allow for better players to still play with them, with weight distribution towards the edges to help with forgiveness.
00:01:41 - Don't fall into the trap of thinking that only good players can use forged irons; it's fine to play either type as long as you find the right club with the forgiveness and distance you need.
00:02:08 - Forged clubs are not necessarily softer as feel is more of an individual preference and sometimes they can actually have a harder feel due to the individualized nature of how they feel.
00:02:57 - Advancements in cast clubs do not prevent you from shaping shots with cast irons as well, meaning forged irons do not necessarily make it easier to shape the ball.
00:03:37 - The best way to determine if cast irons or forged irons are best for you is to get fitted by a professional at Golf Tech who can use different clubs to influence ball flight and spin.
🔨 Forged irons are made from a single piece of metal, while cast irons are created by pouring metal into a pre-built mold.
🏌️♂️ The myth that forged irons are only for better players is debunked; advancements in cast irons make them suitable for all skill levels.
🤔 Feel is subjective, so the belief that forged clubs feel softer than cast clubs is not universally true.
📏 Getting fitted by a professional is the best way to determine whether forged or cast irons are right for you.

00:00:05 - all right uh so today we are going to talk about the differences between forged irons and cast irons so probably one of the biggest things to know right off the bat is just how these irons are made so when you're looking at a forged iron that's the the the club that's typically going to be made out of just one solid piece of metal and then what happens is as they're making this golf club they're basically molding it into the shape and the form with all the
00:00:30 - characteristics that they want so Mazuno does this a lot with all of their irons a bunch of different companies have forged irons but that's essentially what's happening when you're looking at a cast iron the way that those are built there's a pre-built mold um that's in the shape of the iron head that they want to create and then they're basically just pouring the metal into the mold letting it cool and that's how the the cast clubs are formed so a little bit of a difference there just
00:00:50 - between how they're made that's that's the primary difference uh next let's talk about some of the potential myths that exist out there between forging and cast
00:01:03 - irons typically people think that forged irons are for better players um while that is sometimes the case that's not always the case so what you typically see with with forged clubs is because of the way that they're made the weight is just a little bit closer uh in the club head to the club face uh and they typically design forged club heads to be just a little bit smaller so uh obviously a smaller club head less forgiving typically is going to lead to your better players tending to gravitate
00:01:27 - towards these however with some of the advancements that have been made with some of the cast clubs out there doesn't mean that a better player can't play these what you just typically find with these clubs it's a little bit different is the weight maybe isn't positioned as close to the face it's maybe positioned more towards the edges to help with some of the forgiveness pieces built in so while you may see some better players typically gravitate towards forged it
00:01:47 - doesn't mean that if you're not a good player you can't play forged irons because of some of the advances that we made so don't fall into that myth don't fall into that trap totally fine to play either one you just need to find the club that fits the forgiveness profile that you need as well as the distance that you're looking for so that's really the the first myth there
00:02:08 - uh when you hear people talk about forg oftent times they describe them as feeling softer than cast clubs the reason that is a myth is because feel is very individualized so while one person might say this feels really soft somebody else might hit the exact same club and say it has a much harder feel so don't buy into the myth that uh forge clubs necessarily feel softer feel is more of an individual preference and again one person might feel something totally different than someone else uh
00:02:35 - so just because you hear forge clubs are softer doesn't necessarily mean that they are so that's kind of myth number [Music] two typically forged clubs have a little bit smaller club head it's a little bit easier with the center gravity being closer to the face to adjust the ball flight for a better player so while that may sometimes be the case again because of some of the advancements that have been made with cast clubs doesn't mean that you can't shape your shots with a
00:03:01 - cast iron as well so um your your forged irons again typically have a little bit smaller profile they're designed sometimes for your better players with that smaller head um there are still plenty of cast options out there that have a smaller profile where you can shape shots so just because it's forged doesn't mean it's necessarily easier to shape the ball one way or the other you can still move the shot shape one direction or the other with cast clubs just like you can with forge so doesn't
00:03:25 - mean that you can't shape your shots with a cast as this there are some differences between forge and cast again the big one is just how they're made uh I guess the main point of this is to really figure out which one of these is right for you so the best way to do that is obviously to go get fit with somebody who knows what they're doing if you go and get fit with a professional who knows how to potentially use different clubs to either influence the ball
00:03:48 - flight the spin whatever the case may be whatever you're looking for that's really the best way to figure out whether the cast irons or the forged irons are best for you so go to Golf Tech get fit that's the best way to figure out which option is the best for your game [Music]
